Now the long-awaited TechGuySmartBuy review of the Blackberry Tour for Verizon. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get our hands on a pre-release device so we had to wait for the retail device to play with. Next to the release of the Storm, this was a pretty big deal for Verizon customers.

*The Good*

The device is a great size, only slightly bigger than my Curve 8900. Great feel to it. Love the carbon-fiber back of the device. Auto focus & the bright flash does wonders for a 3.2MP camera where you can take great pics on the go. It won’t replace your digital camera but you won’t be embarrassed to show off the pics taken with the Tour. The video capture works great as well. I can honestly say this is probably the BEST Blackberry keyboard out thus far. Not too big, not too small and the space between the buttons are perfect. The battery life should last you all day unless you have Bluetooth, GPS, or streaming media on all day. Tour’s great screen resolution will be loved if you’re upgrading from a 8830 WE/8330 Curve. Backed with Verizon’s stellar network (good coverage, good 3G, good call quality) the Tour is in good hands.

*The Bad*

Being backed by Verizon also means that you won’t get any Wifi support going on at all, at least until 2010. In another year all of you Verizon customers will be free. The device we previewed was little bit buggy but I know others with it and had no problems. There wasn’t a lot wrong with this device that consumers wouldn’t really like.

*TG 2 cents*

The Tour is a great device for Verizon customers. This is an upgrade form the 8830 World Edition but you can consider it Verizon’s CDMA Bold. Easily comparable to the 8900 but with 3G & Bold-like keyboard. Verizon unlocked the Tour’s GPS for 3rd party apps. So if you’re on Verizon and you love Blackberries but not into touchscreens, the Tour is your answer.
