Nokia Lumia 1320 1520 hands-on

Of course while at the Qualcomm event, the Nokia section had everything unveiled from Nokia World.  Including their new two 6inch additions to the Lumia smartphone portfolio.  The Lumia 1320 and 1520.  These are the 1st Windows Phone 8 devices to offer a massive 6inch display and to run a quad-core CPU w/ the 1520.  More on the two below.

  • Both devices are meticulously built as Nokia always does w/ their products.  Both share the now infamous polycarbonate shell that Nokia is known for.  They are quite light and both feel good in your hand.

  • The 6inch displays are another 1st for Nokia an Windows Phone as a platform.  Both screens are really, really, really good.  Utilizing the ClearBlack technology, Nokia should do this more often.  I didn’t have any issues w/ the size but the massive smartphones aren’t for all.  Especially those w/ smaller digits.

  • There are super-subtle differences between the visually.  The 1320 body has rounded curves, an obviously smaller 5MP rear camera lens, and a 720p display (which you only notice when looking really close at the screen).  The 1520 offers a more square cornered-look, like the Lumia 1020 but a lot thinner.  It also has an immaculate 1080p display and a more desirable 20MP PureView rear camera.  The 1320 has a dual-core Snapdragon 400 CPU while the 1520 has the quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU.  During my brief time with them, I couldn’t notice a difference in performance but upon further review we may arrive w/ something noteworthy.

The 1520 is obviously more on the high-end while the 1320 stays on the mid-range side of things.  I honestly preferred the 1320’s body + design over the the 1520 but that’s just me.  Look out for the 1520 to land on AT&T in time for the holidays, no word which carrier will get the little brother.
