After Avengers: Infinity War from Marvel, we could sure use some levity to ease us until Avengers 4 next year.  This is where Ant-Man & The Wasp comes in as Marvel's 3rd film of the year.  This is the continuation of Ant-Man's journey along w/ the getting the OG Wasp back, & learning a little bit more about the Quantum Realm.  The wife & I hit the theaters this afternoon to check out and I'm here to report on if it was good or not and what you need to know about it.

What I Liked:
  • Evangeline Lily did her thing as the Wasp as I never want to see her sidelined again.
  • Better use of shrinking & growing things for combat & other things throughout the film.
  • Scott Lang's crew keeping the comedy relief going while progressing their story as well.
  • Smaller scale & light-hearted film to warm the heart all the capture from Infinity War.
What I Didn't Care For:
  • Not enough Janet Van Dyne for me.  I loved seeing Michelle Pfeiffer do her thing again on the big screen.

If you didn't care for the 1st Ant-Man film, this is a better movie w/ improved pacing, fighting, & humor.

It is similar to Black Panther where it is a self-contained film despite the name drops back to Captain America: Civil War.  There is a clock that Scott must adhere to or else he'll have to deal w/ the FBI & Jail time.  Hank & Hope must beat the clock while dealing w/ Ghost & Sonny Burch who want their hands on their quantum tech.  There were no real villains here.  More so protagonists chasing a MacGuffin.  Much better situation than what they did w/ Yellowjacket.

Scott Lang continues to do the right thing even though it almost never works in his favor.  He's dealing w/ the consequences of helping Cap against the Sakovia Accords in Civil War.  Hope Van Dyne shines as she gets to step out into her own as her version of the Wasp.  From fighting, use of her abilities & Pym particles, she comes off the bench the original Ant-Man put her on.  Hank Pym takes a bit of a backseat in regards to character development.

The humor is a bit less in your face but still funny (to me, anyway).  Whether its dealing w/ Scott being in-between sizes running around, to Luis getting hit w/ 'truth' serum, or recurring gags on how to do magic tricks.  This was all done w/ great pacing by now dragging the story down but present when needed along w/ action & science.

Pay attention to all of the Quantum Realm info as I am sure it will play a role in the next Avengers film.

Peyton Reed had his hands full the 1st time around taking over for Edgar Wright but in this sequel, this is all his film.  From the fighting to storytelling to the overall heart of it all.  Glad to see they didn't over do it w/ Luis w/ the comedy relief but made sure the humor got utilized by almost the entire cast.  As far as what I was expecting, it's a very good sequel that tightens some of the missteps of the first Ant-Man.

If you got a chance to see it, how did you like it?  Or did you not care for it?   Sound off below.
