Announced earlier today, Apple & Samsung have joined forces for one common goal: TV content. Apple’s iTunes Movies & TV Shows app will make its way on 2018 + 2019 Samsung Smart TVs.
So along w/ iTunes content, this will bring Airplay2 support as well.
The icing on the cake is the addition of AirPlay2 support as well to allow you to stream music, photos, videos, & podcasts to your TV too. This marks the 1st time outside of PCs that Apple granted 3rd-party access to their media app. The iTunes app will be available in 100 countries as AirPlay2 support will arrive in 190 countries.
This is smart for both companies as Apple is prepping more original content via streaming service and gives Samsung exclusive content to offer their customers. In case any of you where still waiting w/ bated breathe for an actual Apple TV unit, that rumor is officially dead at this point. Now we’re just waiting for the Google Assistant support announcement.
