At the heels of the Storm possibly getting their 5.0 OS update tonight or tomorrow, Blackberry preps to make the OS available for all of their current devices but would still be subject to the carrier’s release of the OS. Below is a list of the devices ready (for some reason the 8520 & soon to be 8530 Curves are missing):
- BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8200 series smartphones
- BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphones
- BlackBerry Curve 8350i smartphones
- BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphones
- BlackBerry Bold 9000 smartphones
- BlackBerry Storm 9500 series smartphones
- BlackBerry Tour 9630 smartphones
In order to optimize the BlackBerry smartphone user experience with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0, BlackBerry smartphones must have more than 64MB of memory to support this version of BlackBerry Device Software. BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 is targeted to be supported by Research In Motion on the above noted BlackBerry smartphones.
Unfortunately for older models (8300/8310/8320 Curve series) this can be a pain in the ass as the new OS update can drastically slow your device down to everything you to may subject you to see the dreaded spinning hourglass with every action you take. The 8330 has 96MB of flash memory vs the rest of the Curve series that caps off at 64MB of flash memory.
