BGR got the details and a few screenshots on the new 6.0 OS for BlackBerry. He mentioned a source in AT&T in regards to a touchscreen device (slider, maybe) multitouch, pinch-to-zoom, and kinetic scrolling system-wide within this new OS. Looks like 6.0 will be the refreshed look that RIM needs to stay relevant in the game.
Full Webkit browser (Finally!) complete with tab switching (pic below), new favorites, and multitouch support. Awesome! RIM’s browser appears to be ready for the big leagues.
RIM’s media player got revamped (Apple-style look) to catch up with the times more. The messages inbox gets updated w/ thumbnails to the left of messages to identify whether its Facebook, Twitter, etc. along with RSS feeds built-in. Main homescreen is now completely customizable w/ different screens like Android’s. Photo app layout has been redone also to the style similar to Apple’s. Thumbnail view allows you to scroll through pics without having to load one pic at a time. Also a refreshed look to the email brings UI changes along w/ universal search option present.
The 6.0 OS is said to be available in the June/July months with 100% confirmation. All there is to do now is to await an official announcement at WES to confirm. It will definitely be a hot summer with all the cool treats coming to these mobile platforms.
