Last month, T-Mobile along with other Canadian carriers released the BlackBerry Bold refresh, the Bold 9780.   And having since updated my 9700 to the leaked BB6 OS, the slight desire for the 9780 I once had has now faded for me.   Recently, one of our partners/contributors, upgraded from his demolished Curve 8900 to the Bold 9780 and we decided to give our readers a quick hands-on with the new BlackBerry 6-stocked Bold instead our usual full reviews.    Our highlights and a pair of photos lies after the break.

  • As you can see above, the photo quality between the two are still close enough to not trade in your 9700 for the 9780.  But on its own you will definitely be able to take some nice pics on the go and get creative with the new photo features on BB6.  (Note: BB6 got rid of the Black & White and Sepia photo filters.)  The new Bold is more so for newer customers and those with older BlackBerry devices looking to upgrade.
  • Although Bold 9780 has more memory than the Bold 9700, the overall performance speed difference wasn’t  drastically better.  The only place you really saw the difference was on the web browser, the 9780 would finish rendering pages while the leaked BB6 on the 9700 would hang for a bit before finishing.
  • The official specs on the 9780 and the 9700 are similar for the most part but the 9780 felt an ounce or two lighter than the 9700 when on paper they both weigh in at 4.3oz.
  • Same QWERTY keyboard build, screen resolution, and battery as the 9700 so expect a great experience overall.   Priced for T-Mobile at $129.99 with a new two-year contract, you definitely can’t wrong with this device.  The 9780 comes in Pearl White and Black with a black bezel.   There you have in a few brief words.
