Thanks to a raise in Verizon’s regulatory fee from $0.13 to $0.16 that kicks in on July 1st, this gives VZW subscribers a way out of their contract without being subject to ETFs (Early Termination Fees).   Uncovered by the good folk at The Consumerist, this new change in the regulatory fee causes your current contract to be null in void if the customer does not agree.   Below is a piece of VZW’s customer agreement pertaining to the matter:

Can Verizon Wireless Change This Agreement or My Service?
We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we’ll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you’re accepting the change. If you’re a Postpay customer and a change to your Plan or this agreement has a material adverse effect on you, you can cancel the line of Service that has been affected within 60 days of receiving the notice with no early termination fee.

Interested subscribers can get out of their current contracts by calling VZW and ask to be transferred to the Retention Department, inform them that you are aware of the fee hike being a material adverse change of contract  and that you want out.   They will more than likely offer you sweet deals/incentives for staying but if you stand your ground in wanting out, they will oblige ETF-free.    You will have 60 days from July 1st to take advantage of this so don’t wait too long.
