Could this be the new line up of the major companies in the US cellular market (T-Mobile more than likely to merge with AT&T)? Sprint in first, Verizon taking the wingman seat and AT&T in the backseat. Say it isn’t so. If things go right for Sprint then the top seat may be swept from Verizon and given to Sprint. Sprint is currently working to combine their three major frequencies (iDen, CDMA, & WiMax), currently on different devices, on to all of their devices. This change of pace may cost Sprint a pretty penny (estimated around $5 billion). This change, (Project Leapfrog) can very well propel them ahead of the aforementioned carriers in the US. The idea is to free up the traffic by letting customers use the frequency that best fits the area that they are in and hopefully less clutter will equal better reception, upload and download time, and all around better data connectivity.
“Sprint currently has 800MHz iDen, 1900MHz CDMA, and 2500MHz WiMAX and they plan on combining all services on all forms of spectrum. For example if in NY 800MHz works best to complete a call or establish data then a device compatible with the new network would use 800MHz. If 1900MHz is less crowded and works fine, it will use that, and so on….LTE is absolutely going into this plan and they will put LTE on their 800MHz network when possible.” Bryan of GizmoFusion
Currently Sprint is the only true unlimited data carrier around with everyone else having caps on their plans, they could make quite the competitor in the run for number one. Real Sprint fans know that they have always talked about being the only true all digital network but it came at a cost (dropped calls, not enough coverage,etc.). This constant balancing act may soon be over and Sprint can potentially be on the come up. I am sure you are wondering why I am continuing to talk as if it isn’t going to happen. Well friends the proof is in the pudding and who knows what the future holds for AT&T and Verizon. At this point may the best carrier win! Let us know your thoughts.
