According to sources for the Wall Street Journal, Google looks to change its format for the Nexus program this year. Having already revived its carrier-free at full retail pricing model for the latest GSM Nexus, Google looks to make even more changes to what we know about its Nexus program. Expect to see up to five different Nexus devices running Android 5.0 (Jellybean) available by Thanksgiving. That’s right. Five different Nexus devices made by five different phone manufacturers all running pure Android.

With HTC making the first one and Samsung behind the last two, this opens up the opportunity for others put their best foot forward and let the public decide in sales. Also this will help get the latest Android OS out to more consumers rather than be subject to the waiting for carriers to roll out the update which many Android users are still waiting for. A move like this will give Google more control of their OS over the carriers. The new format may also apply to upcoming Nexus tablets as well.
