I know many of you out there picked up an iPhone 5 or plan to before the year is out. If you owned any previous iPhone, you know this device was not made to take any beatings (drops, liquid spills, etc.) and you will need a case. With my iPhone 4S & 5, my case of choice was the CandyShell by Speck which added protection without adding too much bulk or hinder features of the phone. I recently read about SwitchEasy upon my search and wanted to give them a shot to see if they can make a good case for the i5.
Everything your Tones case comes with |
The SwitchEasy Tones case isn’t made for heavy-duty punishment like Otterbox or LifeProof but offers more of a minimalist approach. Tones case is made out of a rubber shell with hardened edges along with a scratch-resistant polycarbonate that covers the sides and most of the rear. They also provide you with a screen protector for your display, another one for your aluminum back, a microfiber wipe, and covers for your audio & charging ports. My up and downs about it lie below.
The SwitchEasy case does add a slight bit of heft to it where your iPhone 5 won’t be as light. I personally like a little weight to it. The case does retain more of the size of the iPhone 5 without adding to its dimensions compared to other non-heavy duty ones. Feels good in hand and you don’t have to worry about losing your grip on it. Armed with two protective films for both the screen & the rear aluminum area. The screen protector doesn’t hinder touchscreen functionality not one bit. And unlike most cases in this price range, SwitchEasy provides pegs to keep dirt/dust getting inside of your headphone jack & charging port. Nicely done.
Removing your iPhone from the Tones case can be problematic for the impatient. This won’t be a big deal for those who don’t take your phone out of its case often. The polycarbonate rear & sides can be quite stiff as you can possibly scratch your device in the process of removal. Heed my warning, if interested. Not a huge deal for some but definitely a notable one.
You gotta protect your investments, especially your mobile ones that require two-years of your life like a smartphone. The Tones case definitely preserves the iPhone 5’s sexiness while keeping it safe. I personally love the emulation of the two-tone color design as it comes in seven different colors to suit your eye’s desire. To help extend your iPhone’s life you want to place it safe in case. Preferably the Tones case. Just as long as you plan to taking your phone out of it often.
The Tones case by SwitchEasy can be said with the likes of Speck & their CandyShell but offers even more protection. Retailing for only $24.99, this is easily a buy for any iPhone 5 owners looking for some piece of mind. FYI, pricing is the same on Amazon.com and on SwitchEasy’s site. If you are searching for a great case for your iPhone 5 that doesn’t break your wallet, look no further.
