As you know on Friday, Apple’s new iPad & iPad mini became ready for pre-orders.    Ever since its announcement there have been a mixed bag of emotions in regards to Apple’s new tablets.   First, being the pricing on the iPad mini and already refreshing the latest full-sized iPad with a 4th-generation one.  Many consumers are on the fence about due to the variety of tablets on the market.
It all started when Apple kind of threw everyone from a curveball when they announced a 4th-generation iPad to refresh and replace the Retina iPad back in March.  The newest full-sized iPad offers everything the previous model had but with a faster A6X dual-core processor, FaceTime HD, & new Lightning port.  This move may piss off many consumers who purchased an iPad within the last 8 months.  In Apple’s defense, they are exchanging newer iPads for older ones from anyone who purchased one within 30-days at select Apple Stores according to CNET.
Here are a few things to think before deciding whether to buy or not to buy the newer iPads.

Why You Should Wait:

  • The pricing on the mini is as attractive as Apple’s competitors, a newer mini bring the pricing down.
  • Apple just shortened the lifespan on the iPad from one-year to 8-months.   Meaning another iPad & iPad mini could arrive within less than a year.  Although the iPad mini looks awesome but you know somewhere in Apple’s pipeline, (whether it is the next one or two) there is a Retina mini.  The competitors still have the mini beat on the display.   With a the 1st-gen being such a low-resolution screen & last year’s specs, it may be better to wait.
  • Same goes with the newly-announced 4th-gen iPad.   Who knows what Apple has in store for the next-gen iPad that could have even more new treats like the same thinner, lighter design as the mini along with the glass-on-glass touchscreen technology.  Which usually becomes unveiled around the March/April timeframe.

Why You Should You Buy:

  • Apple lovers and consumers invested in all things iOS will appreciate the smaller iPad that still offers the best selection of tablet-sized apps over other platforms.  This, along with the premium build, would help justify the pricing.
  • If you never owned an iPad previously, now is the best time cause you have a choice depending on your need.  For those of you on a budget: the iPad mini.  For everyone else: the newest full-sized iPad.
  • Either iPad (4th-gen or mini) would make a stellar gift for the holidays, making you the champion of presents to your loved ones.

Side note: The amount of $$$ shelled out for an LTE iPad mini, it may make more sense to grab a full-sized iPad.   You may want to grab a Wi-Fi base model at the $329 price point if you just have to have one.  Also, all Wi-Fi models are already sold out in both Black & White colors.

Make your decision wisely.
