In honor of today being the launch of Verizon’s BlackBerry Z10, I stopped by a local VZW retailer to check out how things were going. After spending about an hour, there were three interested consumers who stopped by to the demo the Z10. A few even walked out with one. Enjoyed some great tech talk with the store manager and a few VZW employees. I did manage to get some one-on-one time with the Z10 and my notes lie below.
- The 4.2inch 720p HD LCD display is pretty good. A sharp, bright, with great color reproduction on this display.
- The Z10’s performance is on par with current flock of devices as it is armed with a dual-core S4 processor. Snappy and responsive. No sense of lag what so ever.
- The Z10 has a quality look and feel to it. Not too heavy, not too light. Just the right size & weight. The plastic back door has a nice textured finish for a nice grip. Also the Z10 in white sexy as hell. Damn near equivalent to when Apple gave the iPhone a white paint coat.
- The 8MP camera is definitely one of the fastest experiences I’ve seen to process. The camera’s Time Shift mode is a game-changer. So much that other companies like HTC and Samsung are using a similar method of capturing a few frames before & after the photo. BlackBerry’s camera software offers an array of editing tools & features to make up for the lack of Instagram.
- The new BlackBerry 10 OS is easily their pride and joy. After spending a short amount of time with it, I can definitely appreciate it. The gestures of BB Flow becomes natural after a bit. Even though I want to press the BlackBerry logo. Android has me looking for a Home button. BB Hub is a great idea of having one central place for all of your communication needs.
- The BB10 is easily one of the best touchscreen keyboards I have used. From touch sensitivity to auto correct down to the predictive type is ideal for short texts or long emails. This alone makes up for the Storm series.
A big thanks to the manager Giancarlo and the rest of the awesome staff at Verizon Wireless on Rt 17 South in Paramus, NJ.
