nokia lumia 2520 hands-on
While attending Qualcomm’s Snapdragon event in NYC last night, there were a few surprises in the house in regards to devices.  One of them is seeing Nokia’s 1st tablet here in the US.  The Lumia 2520 was unveiled earlier this week at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi.   Out and about w/ its Power Keyboard accessory, we spent some time w/ it briefly to some 1st impressions on it.

  • Being Nokia’s 1st tablet, there’s plenty of expectations when it comes to its design and build.  From my 1st impressions, they definitely meet and exceed them.  The Lumia tablet offers a great build, that’s thin and offer a nice heft of weight to it but not heavy.  The gloss body did as it usually does and becomes a fingerprint magnet.

  • The 10.1inch IPS display was super-bright, sharp, & crisp.  Offering great viewing angles of up to 180-degrees – that’s ideal for indoor or outdoor readability.  All of that along w/ a stunning resolution + clarity, Nokia has a winner.
  • The performance and touchscreen responsiveness was on-point as Qualcomm provided the internals their high-end, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor + 2GB of RAM.  No hiccups or lag in opening apps or utilizing any gestures from Windows RT 8.1.
  • Since it’s a Nokia device; it ships with Nokia Music(music streaming), Nokia Storyteller (uses geo-tagging to detail your photos and videos as a story), Nokia Director (video editing program), & HERE (mapping service) are all at your disposal.  Good to see Nokia stepping up and offering even more featured software.

  • Like the Surface, the 2520 has a keyboard accessory but this offer more to offer than Microsoft.  This one is obviously better built as Nokia still knows how to build things.  Nokia’s Power Keyboard charges your 2520, has a keyboard, & gesture pad to truly keep up going: battery-wise and on a productivity side of things.

The Lumia 2520 felt good in-hand and good to use.  This would be my pick for anyone thinking about a Windows tablet…unless you have a problem w/ Windows RT.  AT&T is already the exclusive carrier for this tablet as we expect it to launch in time for the holidays.
