To follow up with Sony going more in-depth about game-sharing on the PS4, yesterday they revealed a lot more details within the huge FAQ. With just over two weeks left until launch, Sony reveals more details on their policies to discuss about media playback, external hard drive support, PS3 game compatibility and more. Dive into everything below.
PS4 On External Hard Drives:
- The 500GB hard drive that ships with the console can be swapped out but does not support connecting to an external HD.
PS4 On PS3 Support:
- Like the Xbox One and the Xbox 360, PS4 will not be able to play physical PS3 games. PS4 Blu-Ray Disc reader operates at a higher speed than the PS3. You can however buy the digital copy of PS3 games.
- It will be technically possible for PS4 gamer to play against PS3 online as it is up to the developers to support it. At the moment, Helldivers is the only game that supports PS4/PS3/PS Vita online gameplay.
PS4 On YouTube Video Sharing:
- At launch gamers will not be able to share their recorded gameplay videos via YouTube. Users will have to use Facebook, Ustream, or Twitch for sharing their various pwned footage.
- Recorded gameplay footage caps out at 15 minutes and shared Twitch footage won’t be archived without presetting your PC.
PS4 On Music Playback:
- At launch, the console will not support CD or MP3 disc playback or DLNA support.
- PlayStation’s music visualizer is also gone.
- Audiophiles will have to resort to using Sony’s Music Unlimited Service that starts at $4.99 monthly.
