Back in June, we gave you a 1st look at what internet-connected cars will look like and that future is getting closer to fruition. AT&T has already secured a deal w/ General Motors to bring LTE speeds to select 2014 vehicles and the carrier now has two more manufacturers on-board. They now have Audi & Tesla as well.
Audi owners will soon enjoy the power of AT&T’s LTE network. Combined w/ the Audi Connect system users will be able to take advantage of features like picture navigation, news or Facebook/Twitter alerts read to you, and access to 7,000 online radio stations. The 1st vehicle to take advantage of this will be the 2015 A3 Sedan. The carrier will offer a Mobile Share data plan option for interested subscribers.
Now on the the fully-electric Tesla, this grants you LTE connectivity to access the vehicle’s diagnostics, navigation, security, web-browsing, and entertainment – all accessed from the massive 17-inch touchscreen display seen above. This will enable current and future Tesla owners Internet access so if you already own one, wait no more.
I applaud AT&T to being one of the 1st providers for vehicle internet. Cadillac was one of the 1st vehicles to offer in-car internet powered by Autonet Mobile back in 2009.
