During this weekend, Samsung unveiled their new smart watch called the Galaxy Gear. This is Samsung’s second take at their smart watches. Surprisingly enough they introduced a 3rd option of the Gear Fit. But Our 1st impressions on all 3 lie below.
Galaxy Gear 2 + Gear 2 Neo
- While I wasn’t the biggest gear fan I do like what they’ve done w/ it.
- They did add a Home button to better assist the previously all-touchscreen navigation. I thought it was a great add-on to it.
- For those curious about what Tizen is and there being a difference in software between that and Android, there is none. The overall software looks and feels the same.
- The addition of a built-in heart rate monitor to provide more accurate health reading.
- If you aren’t about that selfie life, them moving the 2MP camera from the wrist to the bezel you won’t care. If you do, then you will be in heaven.
- While being lighter in weight, the new Gears are pretty much the same as the 1st ones.
Galaxy Gear Fit
- As much as you might think this is something different, it isn’t. Its the standard Gear w/ a Fuelband twist to it.
- Like the rest of the new Gear family, if you’re not pleased w/ the given bands you can swap out for your own.
- Out of the 3 I think this will be their big seller. The curved Super AMOELD display is quite attractive as its all fitness & notifications. No camera, mic, or speaker. The rectangle display gives you a bit more real estate to view notifications without taking up your entire wrist.
- The Fit is a essentially a better-looking Gear with a sportier look to it and I want it!
Everything announced today will be available sometime in April as we are just waiting to hear about pricing before getting too excited.
