Earlier today, the next-generation smartwatches by Samsung leaked out and several hours of speculation ensued. Then at 9PM this evening, Samsung made it official by emailing bloggers and press w/ the official press release. Only 6 months later, the sequel to the Galaxy Gear is coming.
As we said earlier there is now 2 not just one smartwatch from Samsung. Kicking off MWC 2014 early, the new Gears has some new changes to the mix. Instead of running Android it will be powered by Tizen (a newer Linux-based OS). The camera was moved from the band to the bezel in order to make the bands interchangeable. The weight of it is now lighter and the CPU is beefed up from 800MHz to 1GHz dual-core processor. Also inside is 512MB of RAM + 4GB of storage. The new Gears will support Bluetooth 4.0 and will work w/ devices running Android 4.0 or higher. A suggested 2-3 day battery life and a built-in heart rate monitor + pedometer.
The only difference between the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo is that the Neo lack the 2MP front-facing camera. Other than that and being overall lighter, there no other difference between the two. Expect the 2 new Gears to arrive everywhere sometime this April.
Who’s looking to give the new + improved Gear 2 for a spin?
