Now that HTC’s latest flagship is now official, its time for some hands-on with it. After spending a bit of time demoing the device, we were fortunate enough to take one home. I was able to take some photos + videos, check out speedy performance, and get a much better idea for 1st impressions. My notes + video lie below.
- HTC maintained the sexiness of the device. A more polished aluminum, unibody build w/ rounded corners. All while retaining a thin frame and lightweight profile.
- The new DuoCamera is HTC’s vision for the next-generation of the Ultrapixel movement. While we didn’t get bump in MP, HTC did add more features within the camera software to utilize like slow-motion video. BTW, that extra sensor is a depth sensor for refocusing your images or add a 3D layer after you take them. HTC is the 1st finally insert a better front-facing camera w/ a 5MP wide-angle lens.
- I’ve said it time and time again, HTC makes one the best displays in the smartphone market. The 5inch LCD display sporting 1080p resolution + 440ppi makes everything you view on it a marvel (unless its crappy quality of course).
- Sense 6 (or as they refer to as the 6th Sense) has many new software treats and is better looking as well. BlinkFeed now has over 1,000 content partners including Fitbit and Foursquare along w/ places to shop/eat & other places of interest.
- Zoe now allows you to add your own photos/videos/music to your them as well as they now have cloud support.
- Motion Launch is a new trick borrowed from LG’s Knock On allowing to tap twice to unlock as well as swipe from the left or right to unlock the M8 from sleep. We got more to dig into for the full review.
- BoomSound is still loud and sounds great. A great combination of built-in amps and dual front-facing speakers as they made it 25% louder than last year’s model. I honestly don’t miss the Beats Audio software profile at all.
Be on the look out for the full review which should sometime next week.
