Apple is ready to take on several new industries w/ this year’s WWDC. As one of the last few rumors, it also became true. Apple wants to help you control your smart home by accessing the many smart devices in the market now.
Also part of iOS 8, Homekit will be a central hub to control smart locks, lights, cameras, doors, thermostats, plugs, and switches. Homekit allows for secure pairing to your iPhone or iPad along with the power to control individual devices, group devices into scenes, and comes w/ Siri integration.
Many companies are on board to suppot at launch like Honeywell, Kwikset, Philips, Withings, iHome, iDevices, Schalge, and more. Don’t expect Nest to have support or at least just yet.
This will be bundled as part of iOS 8, coming this fall.
