At I/O Google unveiled their new plan for getting into your home w/ Android TV. Today we have its 1st device w/ the Nexus Player. This is a new set-top box to combat the Fire TVs and Rokus out there.
The Nexus Player is made by ASUS + Google as it is the evolution of what the Chromecast offers. Its a big 4.7inch in diameter disc w/ a small remote that allows for voice search. Internally it has 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom CPU, 8GB of storage and uses 802.11ac Wi-Fi to stream. It will support media streaming as well as game streaming from the Play Store.
The Nexus Player will be available for purchase in November only on the Google Play Store for $99. The game controller will sell for $39. Pre-orders start on October 17th.
