Also anticipated was a new spin on an already fan-favorite: the iMac. Apple made a new variant of it offers beefy specs and the highest resolution display seen anywhere. Meet the all new 27inch Retina iMac. This won’t replace any of the already existing iMacs as it will be another option.
So what’s so special about this iMac? Simple. The display. Apple calls it a Retina 5K display. The 27inch screen offers a 5120 x 2880 resolution. That is insane and is not a typo. Making this the new ideal machine for 4K video editing. Inside of the Retina iMac starts w/ a 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 CPU and goes up to 4GHz i7, an AMD Radeon R9 GPU, 8GB up to 32GB of RAM, 2 Thunderbolt 2 ports, and a 1TB Fusion Drive (which utilizies both standard HD + SSD) up to a 3TB one or opt out for a 1TB SSD.
This is quite the alternative to the Mac Pro as this begins shipping today w/ the starting price of $2,499.
