Looks like my favorite on-the-go camera will finally get the refresh it deserves. According to the folks over at Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony may have a new 24MP mirrorless shooter coming soon w/ the A7000. This is aligned to be the official follow up for the game-changing NEX-7 of late 2011/early 2012 in case you thought the A7 was supposed to be that.
According to their sources, the A7000 will offer a weather-sealed body, a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000th of a second, and will be able to capture video in 4K. No word on whether or not you will need an external recorder for 4K to do so. Expect it to ship w/ a newer version of the Sony’s 16-50mm power zoom kit lens as well as having full tethering abilities.
The A7000 is set to arrive sometime in 2015 as well. No official word on pricing but I would guess it would over $1K just as the original NEX-7 was. I hope there will be a headphone and/or mic jack on-board for lightweight on-the-go video treatments.
