Earlier this morning at the Basel World watch show in Switzerland, a big announcement for Android Wear was made. The iconic timepiece brand Tag Heuer announced that they will be throwing their hat into the smartwatch market.
This will be an Android alternative to the high-end Apple Watch.
The luxury watch maker isn’t going in solo, they’ve brought some help along w/ them. They’ve partnered up w/ both Google + Intel to make this happen. Google will provide the software and Intel will offer up the technology. With TH being a luxury brand this might be one of the 1st high-end, luxury offerings from Android Wear.
Interestingly enough, there are rumors of Android Wear getting iOS support. If so, it will be apart of the unveilings at I/O this year. A launch event is anticipated for later this year w/ the actual watch launching sometime in the 4th quarter.
While smartwatches are getting more useful by increments, the race for the high-end wearable tech has already begun.
