Earlier this morning in Cali, Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla) took to the stage to unveil a new product. Some might have been thinking that it may have been a new addition to the Model S or something, they went completely left field and revealed their new Powerwall. Marking this as the 1st product from Telsa’s Energy department.
The Powerwall is in a sense a giant battery that you place in your home. It charges by the way of solar panels to reduce the need to rely on the power grid. This isn’t cut out the energy companies but to reduce the wasted energies by their power stations when not in use.
This could be the start of something to make energy companies very afraid.
The Powerwall batteries come in 2 sizes: a 10kWh for $3,500 and a 7kWh for $3,000. The 10kWh will be abel to power homes on the grid when there’s a power outage while the 7kWh is more so fro solar cell users wanting to use that to power their homes at night. You will still have to include a DC-to-AC inverter to that price as well. If you’re already a Solar customer, you will already have the inverter present. You will be able to stack multiple Powerwalls together as you can have up to 9 in one home.
Distributors will be able to lease the Powerwall to customers as it will come w/ a 10-year guaranteed life warranty. Tesla is still seeking partners to really pull this off. Those of you interested can reserve yours now as it will ship later this summer.
