Are you an avid user of Google’s Hangouts? I know I am. I got plenty of friends to make the switch over to the service for our group chatting needs. Google has been slowly building this app up to be their unofficial main way of communication as you have voice/video calling and Google Voice & SMS integration baked in. This has turned it into not the cleanest-looking app but a change is upon the horizon.
The folks over at Android Police got their hands-on w/ an upcoming version of the Hangouts 4.0. This new version shows the app getting more Material Design involved into the UI & interface. Gone is the tab for People, Chats, & Dialer. Now you have a + or Action button that pulls up recent contacts and options for new chat, video call, or group. You also get faster access to emoticons, photos, sending your location, and stickers w/o taking up the entire screen to do so.
The Hangouts 4.0 they were using is an unreleased version as not all of these changes may make tot he next big update for Hangouts. I’d guess we’ll see this update arrive sometime between the summer and before the new Nexus devices launch.
