Looks like Panasonic has been paying attention to what Sony has been doing in the optical department. Not to say that they haven’t done anything amazing, which they have w/ their GH and several products from their Lumix series of shooters. But more so to Sony’s offerings – namely the RX100. Dubbed the perfect pocket camera & great YouTuber shooter.
Panasonic created the RX100 alternative w/ some trade-offs.
Well, now it’s their turn to take a crack at it. Meet the Lumix ZS100: a pocketable 4K point-and-shoot camera. Armed w/ a 20MP f/2.8-5.9 Leica lens + 1inch sensor, 5-axis optical image stabilization, 3inch touchscreen display, 10x optical zoom, in-camera RAW editing, burst mode of 10fps, and lastly can shoot 4K video at 24fps & 1080p video at 60fps.
This is set to go on sale in March w/ a cheaper price tag of $700 as opposed to the RX100’s $1000. There are some trade-offs, though. The ZS100 display doesn’t flip out at all while Sony’s can give you an 180-degree view for monitor video or selfies. The lens on the RX100 is a lower aperture at f/1.8-2.8. So you might want to consider these things if you plan on picking one up.
