handsfreepayAt Google I/O last year, the company unveiled a new type of payment system on the way called Hands-Free.  It is an interesting way to pay for things w/ your smartphone.  The app utilizes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and location services to work.  All you have to do is say “I’ll pay w/ Google”, the store associate verifies your identity and that’s it.

Cashiers will have to check your initials and the photo you submit to the Hands Free app as part of the verification process.  Google is currently in the process of rolling out an in-store camera system that would verify you against your photo faster w/ images deleted immediately afterwards.   The app will never share your full credit card number and payment details are stored safely and only shared w/ the payment processor.

Hands-Free at ts current state won’t be part of Android pay but a completely separate app.  The beta was supposed to go live late last year but whatever the case it did not and is ready now.  It is currently, available in the San Francisco Bay Area at the moment and only in McDonald’s, Papa John’s, and other local retailers.

Download the app for Android | iOS and get $5 off your 1st purchase.
