Earlier today, we were in NYC as DJI unveiled their newest drone to the market. Say hello to the new-and-improved Phantom 4.
The body style has been redesigned but retains the design language of the Phantoms of previous years. A smaller body, metal frame on the bottom, microSD card slot now on the body instead of the camera, the propellers & battery are easier to add/remove. The new camera is a f/2.8 12MP camera capable of shooting 4K video @30fps/1080p @120fps and that’s only the beginning.
DJI definitely flexed their innovative abilities w/ the Phantom 4.
The biggest new feature is its new autonomous abilities. In front, you now have 2 new optical sensors along w/ 2 ultrasonic sensors aiming down to help the drone ‘see’ in a digital world in order to avoid objects on its own. Next up, you have its new ActiveTrack system which allows the Phantom to lock-on to a subject and follow. All while recording smooth footage w/ just the touch of a button.
Not bad for a drone that can now hit speeds up to 45MPH and last up to 28 minuted on a single charge. The Phantom 4 will cost you $1,399 w/ pre-orders kicking off today. The new Phantom will be in DJI & Apple Stores starting on March 15th. And other 3rd-party stores will begin selling on April 1st.
So who getting one?
