For the uninitiated, Xiaomi is China’s popular brands for consumer electronics and led by former Google chief Hugo Barra. They make everything from smartphones, action cameras, and now a drone. Today they just unveiled probably the cheapest drone on the market w/ the Mi Drone.
This is the more than capable drone powered by quadcopter, equipped w/ a 360-degree camera, and a remote control that uses your smartphone at a viewfinder. The more interesting thing about this drone, in particular, is its modular parts. Yes. You can detach the camera module as well as the rotors and the 5100 mAh battery. The camera itself is a Sony 12.4MP sensor that can record in 4K at 30fps and take RAW photos. The gimbal onboard has a 3-axis stabilization that self-corrects itself 2,000 times per second.
The Mi Drone will arrive in 2 flavors: a 4K version (2,999 yuan/$460) and a 1080p version (2,499 yuan /$380). This will be crowdfunded via the Mi Home app starting today.
