DSC03690From here on out, we may have to stop calling Google’s upcoming smartphones Nexus devices.  The name/brand might have seen its last devices w/ the 5X + 6P.  According to the folks over at Android Central, Google is looking change the game.  Just in time as they would have to get creative to avoid calling their smartphones the same as their tablet w/ the Nexus 7.

This year might be the end of an era for Android.

The word is that the HTC-crafted 5inch Marlin + 5.5inch Sailfish won’t have the Nexus brand or any HTC logos anywhere on it.  Instead we will see the G logo branded on them.  Not sure if they will be called G Phones or what.  The name Nexus may or may not die w/ the whole Nexus launcher being out ads it may transition to just being a software thing.  This might be why the LG V20 got dibs as the 1st device to ship w/ Android 7.0 out of the box.  Google may spice of the software of their new devices.

Speaking of which, AC also reports that Google will ship the G Phones (we’ll just call them that for now) w/ a special version of 7.0 Nougat.  This could be where the new Assistant will come into play as the G phones may be the 1st device w/ it.  Also, the rumors of Google crafting their own Android Wear smartwatches as well makes for a different approach for Google this year.

All of this info aligns w/ Google CEO Sundar Pichai saying at a conference that we would see a more divisive device this year.  Who’s sad to see the Nexus brand go if this happens?
