Yeah, you read the headline right. If you’re late to the Tesla train like most, you’re gonna have to pay for it. Literally. Anyone buying a Tesla after January 1st, 2017, no more free refills at the Superchargers. This applies to all models -including their fully specced out Model S or X. Bummer.
Tesla will, however, offer a 400kWh credit every year which will equate to up 4 full charges on a P100D. Every charge afterward will carry a ‘small incremental fee’ similar to what you would pay at a gas station but a lot less. If you ordered your Tesla w/ delivery happening before April 1st, you made the cut for free charging. Expect more info to arrive later before the year is out.
Tesla doesn’t plan on making the Superchargers profitable so at the moment, don’t expect them to charge an arm and a leg. This is more than likely to support the growth of their Supercharger network w/ all of the demand for the Model 3 vehicles.
