Along w/ adding support for the Galaxy S8, Google also let the cat out of the bag for what’s next for their Daydream platform. Look out for standalone VR headset w/o a smarphone or PC necessary.
They’re working w/ Qualcomm to bring forth a headset reference design that partners would use as a blueprint. And speaking of partners, they already got HTC’s Vive & Lenovo on board to make the 1st headsets. Vive’s looks slick while Lenovo’s resembles that of the Sony’s VR headset for the PlayStation. Both will be utilizing a new headset tracking technology called WorldSense. This will allow for positional tracking for more precise movements w/o the use of external sensors.
Both headsets are set to launch sometime later this year. Of course, we’ll have to wait to see what the pricing will be.
