Well, we told you in our Galaxy S9 hands-on that Bixby actually got more useful on the camera side of things, now Samsung has more plans to do even more w/ it. What might you ask? By putting it into a speaker. This really shouldn’t be a surprise as every other virtual assistant has a smart speaker.
The president of Samsung’s Mobile side of things, DJ Koh, spoke w/ the Wall Street Journal to confirm a Bixby smart speaker is coming & can be expected out sometime during the 2nd-half of the year. Koh said he wants to focus on more premium product so this could be exactly Samsung’s answer to the HomePods.
We can hope by then Bixby learns some new tricks so they won’t be too much like the HomePod which is a great speaker but a bad smart speaker. We can expect it to play music, timers, answer questions, and control your smart home via voice or via SmartThings hub.
