In case you didn't know by now, Blue Microphones excels in well, microphones.  I already owned the Blackout Yeti USB mic for all of my voiceover work for videos while I use the Blackout Spark SL for the podcast.  They do make great headphones too.  We know as we reviewed 2 of them w/ the Lolas & the Satellite.

Today's topic of analysis is their new $100 Compass Boom Arm made specifically for microphones - theirs & others.  What better way to record your audio then to do it all-hands-free.  In case you were curious to how well Blue can make accessories for their own products, keep reading on and we'll let you know.

So what does a $100 boom arm from Blue get you?  A nice & sturdy aluminum build w/ its own internal springs that can move 360-degrees, the arm can hold up to 2.4lbs w/ mic & mount, it has a reach of 32inches as well, friction-hinges that can be hand-tightened for smooth movement & motion, its own hidden cable management, works w/ all standard shock mounts - all on a C-clamp desktop mount.

The setup of it all is super simple as in the box is only the arm itself, the C-clamp, and the manual.  You just add the C-clamp to your desk, add the arm to it, adjust the arms w/ the knobs to get the arms to your liking, screw on your shock mount & mic, plug in and thread the cable through the funnel.  And that's it.  If you want to remove it all just pull the arm out of the clamp and it's all gone.  Easy to setup, easy to use, and easy to disassemble.

Now you can grab cheaper boom arms but you may have no cable management or lesser quality build.  But if you want to get the most bang for your buck, we got just the thing for you.  We recommend grabbing the Yeticaster bundle where you would get the Blackout Edition of the Yeti USB mic, their Radius III shock mount, and the Compass Boom Arm for $200.  All of these separately would cost you over $300.

Whether you're spitting bars in a laptop studio, voice-over/recording YouTube videos, record audio hands-free on your podcast, or your Twitch game stream.  This Boom Arm is the perfect addition to your setup.  It is definitely good to have either on or off camera for your particular creative endeavor(s).
