A few weeks back, Google teased some of the new features coming to the desktop version of Gmail and earlier today it went live. Introducing the new & improved Gmail that brings forth a lot of Inbox’s features to their main email client.
You got a new look where you see the new font, the option to Archive/Mark Opened/Snooze/Delete w/o having to go into an email, view images w/o having to get inside of the message, and a new sidebar on the right that incorporates your Google Calendar, Keep, the new Tasks feature, and other Gmail add-ons. Now onto the bigger deal here.
So for starters, you got Smart Reply where Google will use contextual awareness to offer multiple suggestions to Reply w/ a short message in a touch of a button. With Snooze, you can snooze it to be notified again about it later to properly respond to it. The Nudge option will remind you of the unopened message to be opened, marked, or respond. And Confidential Mode is a more secure way to email by opting to disable recipients to copy, forward, download or print messages. You can also make the message expire after a desired time as well.
Some of these new features & the new UI will make its way to the Gmail mobile app sometime in the future. You can get started using the new Gmail by going tot he Gear(Settings button) on the top right corner and hit ‘Try New Gmail’. You can always go back tot he current iteration if you’re not interested.
I’ve been using it most of the morning working on others things and I’m digging it. How’re you liking the new Gmail?
