Although we see tons of Teslas on the road now more than ever, it’s not the best time to be the company’s CEO. Whether addressing accusations of drug trafficking, federal investigations or dealing w/ flack of trying to take the public company private again, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is going through it. However, there was a shining star out of it all when he sat down w/ MKBHD of YouTube to talk tech, Teslas, & more.
Out of the several questions asked, one of them was the possibility of an even more affordable Tesla. Musk stated that in about 3 years or so, we could see a $25,000 Tesla if all goes well. Meaning that its an issue of technology & scale currently as they’re just kind of catching up w/ the manufacturing demand & volume. They’re cranking out cars now but not at the point of making a profit off of each yet at a price point lower than what they currently offer. The Model 3 starts at $35,000 as it is Tesla’s cheapest EV at the time. This would sort of complete their ‘Master Plan’ to sell an affordable electric car as their ultimate end goal.
Coming down the pipeline is the Model Y crossover, a pickup truck, the Semi tractor trailer, and the next generation of the Roadster. We also got some intel on why the next-gen Roadster doesn’t have review-view mirrors, the difficulty of the company making more than one vehicle at a time, and an upcoming Model 3 Track Mode update on the way.
