Google announced a new update to their smartwatch platform: Wear OS.  So it has a new look that focuses on finding things easier, the new Google Fit baked in, and a Google Assistant feed.

For starters, they hooked up the UI to make regular navigation a lot easier & simpler.  In the Settings shade, you now have shortcuts to Google Pay, Google Fit lies to the right of the main page, & Google Assistant feed on the left – just like on a smartphone.  The new Google Fit makes health tracking a lot easier as well.

Here’s what you will see on your watch using the new system, starting from the main page:

  • Swipe right: Google Assistant feed of information
  • Swipe left: Google Fit’s new fitness-tracking rings
  • Swipe up: notifications
  • Swipe down: Quick Settings shortcuts
  • Long press on the watch face: change watch face
  • Short press the main button: see all apps
  • Long press the main button: invoke Google Assistant to ask questions via voice

Expect the new version of Wear OS to start rolling out sometime next month.   Who’s looking to give this new UI a shot?
