Starting today, Microsoft is adding voice-based assistants to their gaming console – starting w/ Amazon’s Alexa.  For many years, Xbox users went to the Kinect for things like this but Microsoft has other plans and killed the accessory off.

Looks like we finally have a replacement for the Kinect on Xbox One.

With Alexa on the Xbox One, you will be able to do things like power your console on/off, adjust volume, grab screenshots, launch games, start Mixer broadcasts, and more via your voice.  The new Xbox Skill for Alexa will allow your Echo, Sonos, Windows 10 PC, or Cortana + Alexa apps on Android & iOS.

The new feature is available right now for testers apart of the Xbox Insiders program.  The addition of Alexa gives me hope of Google Assistant possibly coming to the Xbox One to work w/ Google Home products and such.  That is what I’m waiting for.

What’re your thoughts on Alexa coming to the Xbox One?
