So earlier this afternoon, Google decided to respond to the Pixel 4 leaks by revealing the official rear of the device.  So what you see within this post is the official press image of their 2019 flagship.

The official image aligns w/ the renders we showed off earlier.  We see the usual off-color Power button, volume rocker underneath that, and the ‘G’ logo towards the bottom.   What we don’t see is the rear-fingerprint reader as it looks like Google went the route of an in-display one since they’re faster now.

So instead of the Samsung-like rear camera setup, we’re getting an iPhone 11-like oneWhat we originally thought was 3 shooters on the rear is really only 2.  We got 2 sensors in the middle of the new square housing w/ the LED flash at the bottom and another sensor above the flash.  What’s will the 2nd camera do?  We can only assume its either an ultra-wide or a telephoto sensor.  But what about that mystery sensor?  It could be for AR, depth sensing, ToF (Time of Flight), spectral sensor, or some other feature.  Feel free to speculate.

Now Google also says ‘wait til you see what it can do’ in the Twitter post.  We’re already assuming motion-sensing via Project Soli and the new lightning fast Google Assistant shown off at I/O this year.   There’s also a rumor of the new Pixels offering a new facial recognition system above Face Unlock and get closer to Face ID levels.  Outside of that, we’re expect more RAM (hopefully), Snapdragon 855 CPU, a bigger battery, and hopefully a cheaper price tag.

Ah, the possibilities of what could be.  So far, Google has done a better job at keeping stuff under wraps.  Hopefully this can continue up until October.  Does any of this interest you in the new Pixel 4?
