Now if you’re familiar w/ Sonos, you know they’re all about offering the highest quality of sound from their premium build products. They have been a bit on the anti-Bluetooth side of things whenever the technology is mentioned.
Looks like they may have changed their tune a bit based on the latest findings & leaks. Sonos is looking to hold a 2-day press event in NYC to unveil some new products. Thanks to the folks over Zatz Not Funny & The Verge uncovered more info on what that Bluetooth-supported speaker will look like.
Their latest FCC filing has it pegged a model S17 for WI-FI streaming as well as Bluetooth audio streaming w/ BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) for easier setup. This would be a 1st for the company to offer Bluetooth streaming outside of BLE as the Sonos One has it the same setup reasons.
As you can see from the images above, it looks a bit reminiscent of the Play:1 speaker. According to details acquired from The Verge, it is supposed to be taller and wider than the Play:1, it will support Alexa & Google Assistant, will charge via base station as well as USB-C, integrated handle to carry on the go, a switch to toggle between Bluetooth & Wi-Fi modes, cannot be controlled via Sonos app while in Bluetooth mode, and hands-free voice commanded via virtual assistant won’t work in Bluetooth mode.
The Sonos press event is set for August 26 & 27th in NYC. We’re trying to get in so we can bring you all of the news when it goes live at the end of August.
