Earlier today, Google announced a new feature for Google Assistant that allows parents to read a bedtime story to your kids when one parent is away.  It is called My Storytime and it allows you to do so by recording stories using your own voice, upload the files tot he My Storytime service, access the files via Google Assistant through Google Nest & Home devices that support it.

The idea came from the Oliver family, an active duty military family in Clarksville, TN who created a hack to listen to their dad’s recorded bedtime stories on a Nest Mini while he was deployed. To bring this idea to all Nest devices, Nest partnered with Justin Lewis, former US Marine Corps Sergeant and CEO of Instrument, to build the action for anyone who knows what it’s like to miss storytime with loved ones.  And here we are today.  However, you don’t need to be a military family to take advantage of this as families w/one parent who’s always travelling for work,  entrepreneurs, & more.

You can play the stories by saying ‘Hey Google, talk to My Storytime and they will be able to pick the recording of the chapter they want to listen to w/ their children.

Those of you interested, can get started right away as the new feature is available now.
