While we originally thought it would be called the Galaxy Bloom, Samsung’s 2nd folding phone in the shape of a clamshell will be dubbed the Galaxy Z Flip.  Instead of folding vertically, the Z Flip will do it horizontally for a different form factor than the OG Fold.

This will be setup to be the affordable competitive folding phone from Samsung this year.  Mainly to go head-to-head against the folding Motorola RazrThus far, it will be armed w/ a Snapdragon 855+ CPU, dual 12MP cameras on the rear ( 1-wide + 1 ultra-wide), a 10MP selfie camera, and a 3300 mAh battery capable of 15W charging, wireless charging, + reverse wireless charging.  While we know very little about the new Z Flip, we do have some new intel now on it.

According to the hottest leaker right now, Max Weinbach, the Z Flip will be a timed exclusive for AT&T w/ an unlocked version coming later.  This shouldn’t be too disappointing as AT&T was the only carrier to support the OG Galaxy Fold last year.  As far as the pricing, we’re currently looking at a $1,400 price tag on it which would be cheaper than the original Fold and the new Razr by $100 before taxes & such kick in.  And last but not least, availability has it pegged for the same week as Unpacked on that Friday, February 14th.

Hard to get excited about this one as of yet as there are currently no leaked features or specs on this yet.

While their new folding device will launch 1st, there are plenty of people super-curious about the actual 2nd-gen Galaxy Fold.  Well, there’s word on that as well.  Actually from the same source as the Z Flip.

Max tells us that we should expect it sometime during Q2 of this year – which is from the beginning of April to the end of June.  A  lot earlier than the original one.  This new and improved model is said to bring forth some cool things like an 8inch folding display using ultra-thin glass, the same 108MP camera from the S20 Ultra, as well as 5G support and its own S Pen.

The OG Fold had a price tag around $2,000 after taxes and such but retailed for $1,980.  The newly-added feature will definitely make Samsung hike the price a bit more for its 2nd-go round.

If this is the case, you will soon have 2 folding options from Samsung and one from Motorola.  Will this be the year you join the folding phone squad?
