Now we already know that Canon has a possible game-changer on the way w/ the 8K-no-crop-capable EOS R5 but new rumblings suggest that they got something else on the way as well.  We’re talking about the rumored EOS R6 which will be a slight step down for the R5.

The folks over at Canon Rumors have some info on it and have it pegged as a mirrorless version of their 6D Mark II.  This will give you a 20MP full-frame sensor capable of 4K @60fps + 1080p @120fps video.  No word on what the cropped video situation will look like or if it will even exist on this shooter.  We got the rumored specs listed below:

  • A 20MP full-frame sensor w/ IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization)
  • 12fps burst (mechanical)
  • 20fps burst (electronic)
  • 4K@60fps + 1080p@120fps video
  • Dual card slots
  • Lower resolution EVF than the R5
  • Lower build quality than the R5
  • No top-down screen

So if this comes into fruition, this might be a good look for Canon.  Despite the 4K-cropping, the EOS R and EOS RP have been well-received.  I used it briefly last year at PhotoPlus and fell in love w/ it.  Once the world gets a handle on the craziness, I am curious to see how these new shooters from Canon will shape up to be.
