On Friday, Apple & Google did some revisions to their contact-tracing partnership proposal.  They said that this was a result of the massive amount of feedback they received on the matter.

They released a FAQ page which summarizes their efforts but the main takeaway was that the 2 companies are planning to disable the service after the pandemic has been contained.  But its easier said then done as this would have to be accomplished location by location basis as well as on cooperation w/ public health officials.  You will be able to turn the feature off, they won’t monetize it, nor will the government have access to your info and more.

Originally, Apple & Google’s partnership crafted a contact-tracing technology to help identify those who have been in contact w/ Covid-19 but they decided to reword it by calling it exposure notification.  Which is supposed to be a better way to rephrase w/o sounding too much like a potential privacy issue.

Apple & Google’s way of using encryption & Bluetooth to pull this off can be a bit concerning.  But whatever the case, this is how they’re currently going to handle it.  Not sure if one can believe that they will stop once Covid-19 is under control.  What do you think?
