So we told you all about it a little bit ago and it is finally here. Meet the new Mavic Air 2 drone from DJI. This brings a lot to the table and making this more than just a modest update. Let’s dive into all that comes w/ it – officially.
The new Mavic Air 2 weighs in a 1.26lbs, can fly up to 42.5 MPH, has a 3500 mAh battery that can last up to 34 minutes, and offers a 1/2inch f/2.8 48MP CMOS sensor capable of 12MP images, 4K video @60fps/HDR recording, Hyperlapses in 8K, and slow motion video up to 240fps. On the new feature side, you got a new Advanced Pilot Assistance System 3.0. This helps you avoid obstacles w/ sensors on the front, rear, & bottom. This even adds downward-facing LED lights to help w/ landings in dim-light areas. Also new is their AirSense feature which is a DJI-first on the Air 2. This will utilizes a ADS-B receiver that can pick up signals from planes & helicopters to alert you when flying too close to real air traffic.
And last but not least, we got a new redesigned controller w/ OcuSync 2.0. They made sure to swap out Wi-Fi for a 2.4GHz/5.8GHz radio system that shouldn’t run into as much interference as Wi-Fi. This will give you a range of up to 6.2 miles and a new spring-loaded grasp your smartphone for an overall better experience.
The Mavic Air 2 is due out on May 11th starting at $799 and goes up to $988 for the Fly More bundle that includes ND filters, a carrying bag, prop guards, charging hub, & 3 batteries. Keep in mind that there will be in limited supply due to Covid-19 but will arrive in the US 1st and other regions later this summer.
I can’t lie this looks nice and like the best of what DJI has to offer in one drone.
