Now the last time DJI dropped a drone and it was about 2 years ago w/ the original Mavic AirSince then, they have been working on the sequel for it.  Based on their latest tweet (seen below), they look like they’re getting ready to unveil it as well.

So the updated Mavic Air does look larger than its predecessor and more like a Mavic Pro design-wise.  There has been a ton of FCC filings on it a well as leaked images.  Here’s what we have learned thus far:

  • it will have a 1/2.3inch 12MP image sensor that can capture images up to 48MP.
  • it will offer their 3-axis image stabilization + intelligent automated modes.
  • As well as an upgraded ActiveTrack 3.0 system that follows & offers an automated flight path around a subject.
  • it can fly up to 42.5mph
  • it will have a 3500 mAh battery which equates to about 34 minutes of flight time.
  • it will have a redesigned controller

And last but not least, the OG Mavic Air used a Wi-Fi-based radio system that the new one ditches in lieu of a radio system that runs in the 2.4GHz & 5.8GHz ranges.  This will lead to less interference from Wi-Fi networks and beef the distance for 1080p live video as well.

So despite everything going on, would you be interested in picking one up?
