Yesterday, Google rolled out their monthly update to their Pixel smartphones.  The April security patch brings forth a feature many Pixel 4 owners have been waiting for – fixing that security problem w/ face unlock.

The update brings the ‘require eyes to be open’ option for Face Unlock.  Previously, you could use Face Unlock w/ your eyes open or closed and it would work.   This was a huge security risk for users.  Keep in mind that it did take about 6 months to fix the issue but it has arrived.

While many iPhone users may joke about this, Apple went through this as well back when Face ID was introduced w/ the iPhone X.  The April update also fixes issues for dropped Bluetooth audio for phone calls and lag when opening the keyboard in select apps.

For those of you who own a Pixel 4 and didn’t get the update yet, just go to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update to grab it via OTA.  You may have to toggle the feature on after the update like I did.
