Hard to believe that its been 5 years since the A7S II came out but time flies when you’re innovating , I guess.  Many were waiting for it as today Sony made it official.  Enter the A7S III: Sony’s newest full-frame mirrorless camera to what they call supreme imaging performance & ‘S’ series sensitivity.  Let’s dive into all that Sony put into this beast of a camera.

Sony double-downed on their 4K capabilities to make an even improved & versatile shooter at night.

The specs sheet aligns to what we’ve been seeing in regards to its rumors.  So don’t expect this to go toe-to-toe w/ Canon’s 8K shooter.  The A7S III will offer a newer 35mm full-frame 12.1MP sensor capable of 1080p@240fps/4K@120fps 10-bit 4:2:2 & 4K@120fps RAW over HDMI, 600Mbps bitrate, powered by a newer BIONZ XR image processor that has 8x more processing power than the previous BIONZ X, a new Fast Hybrid AF combines Phase and Contrast AF to includes 759 Phase AF and 425 Contrast points that cover 92% of the sensor, real-time tracking + Eye AF that can be used in all photo/video modes including 4K @120fps, a 5-axis optical in-body stabilization, ISO 160-409,600, 16bit RAW output, 15 stops of dynamic range, a new high-res 9.44 million dot EVF, and a fully articulating 3inch touchscreen similar to the one on the Sony ZV-1.

If you ‘re concerned about overheating like Canon is dealing w/ the EOS R5 + R6 line, that shouldn’t be an issue here.  This is thanks to Sony’s new internal heat-dissipating structure to help w/ that.  So you’ll be able to shoot an hour’s worth of 4K video @60fps w/o a worry.

Of course, we didn’t mention the fact that it  supports MIMO 5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi, supports 5G speeds via USB tethering, has 2 SD card slots, a full-sized HDMI port, 3.5mm mic jack, headphone jack, micro USB, and a 1st on a Sony w/ a USB-C w/ PD (Power Delivery) for faster charging.  Sony also supports their new CF Express Card A that can write up to 700MB/s + read at 800MB/s and can put in 2 at a time as well.  Whew!  That’s a lot.

The A7S III is due out in September for $3,500 for the body.  I already see people cancelling their EOS R5 orders for this.  Are you one of them or did you want more from Sony?
