For those of you waiting for the Surface Duo from Microsoft, you don’t have too much longer of a wait.  Earlier this morning, they unveiled the launch date, pricing, and more details on the features/specs.  So we’re looking at September 10th starting $1,399.  I kind of figured the official announcement was coming as the teases & leaks were happening back to back.  That and this was teased back in October at Microsoft’s last Surface event.

This is Microsoft’s Android-powered dream of the Courier fulfilled.

So we got 2 separate 5.6inch OLED displays w/ 1800 x 1350 resolution to connect together for a 8.1inch panel w/ 2700 x 1800 resolution.  This will be armed w/ Gorilla Glass unlike the Galaxy Fold.  It will be powered by a Snapdragon 855 CPU, 6GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, they go 2 batteries in each panel equaling up to a 3577 mAh cell inside w/ up to 15 hours of juice, armed w/ an f/2.0 11MP camera w/ 7x super zoom + can record in 4K/1080p both up to 60fps, support for their Surface pen, no 5G or NFC support, and LTE option via AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon.

Microsoft has been working close w/ Google to make sure the software runs pristine on this thing.  It is supposed to run any Android app by having developers optimize their apps as well as utilizing AI to predict how to open apps on different displays.  Very interesting approach, Microsoft.

Pre-orders for the Surface Duo kicks off today as you’ll be able to do so at AT&T, Microsoft’s online store, & Best Buy.  For you folding phone fanatics, who’s getting your $$: Microsoft or Samsung?
